Prevalence of cardiovascular diseases and drug utilization review at secondary care hospital in South India

Background: To study prevalence of cardiovascular diseases and drug utilization review in patients with diseases. Methods: This was a cross-sectional conducted for about 6 months from December 2021 to February Secondary care hospital. Prescriptions 167 were analysed. Patient Case files used extracting necessary data. Results: The collected data analyzed by MS-Excel (Counts Percentages).Cardiovascular most common the age group 31-40 years (27.55%) followed 51-60 (24.49%) among male female patients, it more 41-50 (23.19%) (21.74%). Most prevalent disease found be Hypertension (31%), coronary artery (21%) acute syndrome (19%). Diabetes Mellitus (39%) Hematological disorders (20%) are co-morbidities along Antiplatelet antihypertensive prescribed category drugs. Of all Cardiovascular drugs, Aspirin (115 prescriptions) Clopidogrel (100 prescriptions), Atorvastatin (73 Olmesartan (54 Metoprolol (49 cases) mostly prescribed. Common combinations drugs + (25%) (24%). Out total 658 prescribed, 15.95% (105) Essential Drug List India (2011). India. Conclusions: present concluded that rationally according current guidelines. Combination therapy have an implication good outcome on long term follow-up.
